Spelling Bee Practice for Kids in Pakistan — Grades 3 to 10

1. 🗣️ Say the word, spell it, then say it again — the Say-Spell-Say formula. Example: Book, B-O-O-K, Book.
2. ⏱️ Each speller gets 40 seconds total to spell their word.
3. 🤝 First 20 seconds: teammates can help and ask for the word to be repeated or explained.
4. 🤫 Last 20 seconds (after a signal): no talking, no hints, no help from teammates at all.
5. 🔔 A final signal marks the end of the 40 seconds.
6. 🔊 Spell slowly and clearly so every letter can be heard.
7. 🚫 No breaking a word into syllables — spell SIGNIFICANT as S-I-G-N-I-F-I-C-A-N-T, not "sig...ni...fi...cant".
8. 🚫 No "um", "uh", or filler sounds while spelling.
9. 🙅 No swapping to a different word once one is given.
10. ✍️ No one may write or type the word unless an official says so.
11. ✅ Once a word is fully spelled, it's locked in — right or wrong. Stop partway through, though, and it can still be corrected.
12. ⚖️ Judges can grant extra time or a new word if something outside your control interrupts you.
13. 🎙️ Rounds may be recorded to help settle disputes; recordings are deleted 24 hours later.
14. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 Both British and American spellings are accepted.

🚩 These count as mistakes (zero marks), even with correct spelling:

• Talking to a teammate after the first 20 seconds
• A teammate prompting, correcting, or signalling the speller
• A teammate mouthing or spelling along silently
• Not following Say-Spell-Say
• Breaking the word into syllables instead of letters
• Using "um", "uh", or similar filler sounds

💡 Remember: spelling correctly with the wrong procedure still scores zero, not full marks — procedure matters just as much as spelling!

Ties are broken with SpellTok — a fast, fun word-making game:
